What You Need to Know About Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining

Whether you have cracks in a residential sewer line or need commercial sewer repair, finding the right solution to meet your needs is important. At My Moorpark Plumber Hero, we use cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining to fix worn spots and repair cracks because it doesn’t require digging up of the old line. Additionally, this type of repair makes a solid section of pipe that doesn’t require welded joints and conforms to the shape and path of the original pipe.

Fast Sewer Solutions

Plumbers and customers like this solution because it takes less time than traditional dig-n-repair methods. In fact, in many cases, barring any unforeseen obstacles, cured in place pipe relining takes as little as 60 minutes after the epoxy’s mixed together.

Why epoxy? For starters, epoxy resin is a hardening agent and acts as a solid base. You don’t want to spend money on temporary pipe repair, right? An epoxy liner lasts for decades and is a perfect fix-it-and-forget-about-it repair option.

How the Curing Process Works

Once the pipe liner is coated, it’s then placed into a pressure tube. We connect the tube to one end of the original sewer line. Next, installation crews use water pressure and sometimes air pressure to reverse the liner. So, essentially, the liner’s turned inside out as it’s forced through the existing pipe. This action causes the epoxy side to adhere to the original pipe walls. Then, hot water, heated to approximately 212 degrees Fahrenheit, moves through the pipe. The temperature activates the resin, resulting in curing the epoxy.

Temperature matters quite a bit during the process. An epoxy that’s too hot won’t cure correctly. Likewise, one that’s cooled too fast causes the liner to shrink. In order for the curing process to work just right, installation crews must closely monitor the temperature.

What Makes for a Successful Curing Process?

A successful curing process ensures that the pipe doesn’t come under attack from things like tree roots and critters. Because CIPP doesn’t create jointed sections, the piping doesn’t have any weak spots susceptible to infiltration from nature. Mother Nature isn’t always kind to sewer lines. Installing a single piece pipe offers the best defense.
